The Rune · regional history
Follow ancient Shurima through a sequence of causes and consequences. Begin with the empire and Ascension, then read the rebellion at Icathia. The confrontation with the Void precedes the fall of the imperial capital and helps explain the damage carried by some of the surviving god-warriors.
Next comes Azir's failed Ascension and Xerath's betrayal. Nasus and Renekton connect that disaster to the prison beneath the city. The darkin wars belong to the world left after the empire's collapse, when extraordinary warriors no longer answered to the order that had once directed them.
Only then move into the modern return. Sivir's encounter with the buried past, Azir's rebirth and the release of Xerath and Renekton take place after a long interval in which people built lives among the ruins. Those centuries should not disappear from the reader's mental picture.
The later stories of Taliyah, Sivir and the people of the desert keep imperial restoration from becoming the only possible ending. The region's future belongs to more than its returned rulers. Read their accounts alongside the ancient history to see how inheritance can become a promise, a burden or a threat depending on whose life it enters.
