Azir, Xerath, Renekton and Nasus

Four lives bring the fall of ancient Shurima into close focus. Azir and Xerath grew near one another across an inequality that friendship did not abolish: one inherited imperial authority, while the other remained enslaved. Nasus and Renekton, brothers transformed into Ascended warriors, served the order surrounding them.

Azir's Ascension became the point at which those histories collided. His delayed promise of freedom could not reverse Xerath's preparations to seize the ritual. The resulting disaster destroyed the capital and remade Xerath as a being of immense magical power.

The brothers' effort to contain him produced a second separation. Renekton remained imprisoned with Xerath, while Nasus sealed the tomb. Over the centuries, Xerath worked on Renekton's understanding of that sacrifice, turning the absence of his brother into an object of rage and blame.

When the tomb was opened in the modern era, the old conflict returned to a land that had lived for millennia with its consequences. Azir's rebirth introduced the prospect of imperial restoration, but did not heal the brothers' estrangement or remove Xerath's ambitions. The four biographies are distinct personal accounts. The regional story concerns the long interval between their ancient catastrophe and the world that must now face their return.
