Undeath and the Mist

The Black Mist is the continuing expression of the catastrophe that transformed the Blessed Isles. It is not ordinary weather or a simple border around a haunted region. It carries death beyond the islands and sustains beings whose desires and suffering have survived in corrupted forms.

The undead are not one uniform population with one purpose. Kalista's existence is bound to betrayal and vengeance. Hecarim embodies a different violence, while Thresh actively enjoys the cruelty his condition allows. The catastrophe connects them without erasing the distinctions that make each dangerous.

Yorick and Maokai provide other perspectives on the same land. Their resistance shows that the islands are not only a collection of monsters. There are forces and remnants that oppose the corruption, even when the scale of the struggle makes restoration seem distant.

Beyond the islands, the Mist appears through Harrowings and the lives of people who fight or survive it. Lucian and Senna make that conflict personal, while the Sentinels connect it to a wider defense. The chronology matters: the ancient disaster created the conditions, and later stories reveal different attempts to endure, exploit or finally confront them.
