The Blessed Isles
Before the Black Mist, the Blessed Isles were a place of learning and carefully protected knowledge. Their isolation allowed scholars and custodians to preserve artifacts and study powers that might be dangerous in less guarded hands. The white mist surrounding the islands was a boundary, not the predatory force later associated with their name.
Their architecture reflects that earlier identity: libraries, vaults and spaces devoted to knowledge. The islands were not simply an empty paradise waiting to be ruined. They were a society with responsibilities, inhabitants and reasons for limiting the access of outsiders.
Kalista's search for a cure for Queen Isolde brought the islands into the history of Camavor. What began as a hope for healing became entangled with Viego's refusal to accept loss. The protections surrounding the isles could not prevent the king's arrival and the violence that followed.
The catastrophe transformed both place and people. The later Shadow Isles preserve the remains of a culture whose buildings were not originally designed for horror. Seeing the earlier illustrations beside the corrupted landscape makes the loss tangible: the reader is looking at a world that existed before the ruin, and at the enduring consequences of forcing forbidden power to answer grief.
