Watchers and Iceborn
The Watchers are part of the Freljord's oldest concealed catastrophe. Lissandra's dealings with them opened a path toward extraordinary power and an existential danger. Their entry into the material world exposed the consequences of a bargain whose scale had not been understood by the people making it.
Lissandra buried that threat beneath the ice at immense cost. The prison was an act of postponement, not a final victory. Her later existence revolves around maintaining the containment, influencing dreams and concealing a history whose revelation could threaten the order she has built around it.
The Iceborn belong to the north's supernatural inheritance, with abilities that distinguish them from ordinary people and give them unusual relationships with cold and True Ice. That inheritance does not make every Iceborn a servant of the Watchers or every northern legend an accurate account of the same event. Different claims need to remain distinct.
Above the buried danger, the Frostguard maintain both a physical stronghold and an authorized memory of the past. Other tribes live with legends that resist that control. The tension between those layers gives the region its unease: wars among people are visible, while the oldest threat remains underneath their world, neither defeated nor safely forgotten.
