The Rune · regional history
Begin Demacia's history with its founding refuge. The Rune Wars explain why protection from magic became so important, while the kingdom's later institutions show how that fear hardened into laws. This gives the conflicts surrounding Lux and Sylas a setting larger than either person's biography.
The Crownguard family provides a close view of the contradiction. Garen's military service and Lux's hidden magic place duty and exclusion inside the same household. The Lux comic then carries those tensions into a public crisis, with decisions whose consequences extend beyond the people making them.
Follow the rebellion into The Mageseeker when you want the later stage of the political story. Its events change the institutions of the kingdom, so older regional descriptions should be understood as accounts of an earlier moment. The stories do not all describe Demacia at the same point in time.
The readings below follow that movement from refuge, to law, to resistance and change. Character biographies remain available as a separate view. You can pause to understand Garen, Lux, Sylas or Jarvan without losing the larger thread of a nation trying to decide what its promise of protection should mean.
